What is the Mass?

The Mass is the highest form of prayer in the Church. At the Mass, we celebrate the Paschal Mystery: Christ’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection. It is important to know that this celebration is not merely a memorial of the Paschal Mystery. It makes the Mystery present, truly present. People do not know how truly exciting the Mass is! When we celebrate the Mass, we are there at the Passion of Christ: His Crucifixion, His Death, and His Resurrection. We are at Calvary as He is being lifted up on the Cross. We are present with His Mother and the beloved disciple.

The Mass is not “re-sacrificing" Jesus on the Cross. Christ is making present that one Sacrifice, that Mystery, each time the Mass is celebrated. When we receive Jesus in the Eucharist, He resurrects our hearts, and we are immersed in His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. As a bride becomes one with her bridegroom, so the Church becomes One with Christ.

If you would like to schedule a Mass for a particular intention or loved one, call the parish office at (301) 349-2045
